Medical body distances itself from ayurveda,unani doctors’ stir

Dr Subash Gawari,Vice-President of the National Integrated Medical Association,Pune,said the strike was successful. During the strike,doctors said that a majority of them practise medicine in rural parts of Pune but ayurveda doctors are never taken into consideration. They also questioned the disparity.

They strongly opposed the Clinical Establishment Act and introduction of Bachelor of Rural Healthcare course.

The Homeopathy Doctors’ Association also participated in the rally that was taken out from Shaniwarwada to the district collectorate.

Dr Mahesh Wayal,president of the Homeopathy Doctors’ Association,urged the Food and Drug Administration to refrain from directing chemists not to entertain prescriptions from other pathy doctors.

“We have strongly opposed the recent directive by the FDA against honouring the prescription of non-allopathic practitioners. There is non availability of doctors in rural areas and hence this move is impractical as patients suffer in long-run,” he said.

The doctors also protested against the inhuman lathi charge on doctors in Lucknow when they were presenting their demands to the administration.

Chemists call off agitation

Chemists who had decided to adopt ‘work-to-rule’ strategy and keep their shops open only till 6 pm from Wednesday have temporarily called off their stir. A committee was set up to take stock of the chemists’ grievances in a meeting called by FDA Minister Satej Patil and State Chemists and Druggists Association president Jagannath Shinde on Tuesday. The report will be presented by July 26.

The Pune Chemists and Druggists Association along with other state level units had planned an agitation against FDA’s directive to chemists not to honour prescriptions of non-allopathic medical practitioners.
