As a part of its platinum jubilee programme,a Medical Council of India (MCI) team recently organised ‘MCI at you door step’ seminar in the state. The objective of the initiative was to have a ‘free and fair dialogue across the table’.

The deans of all private and government medical colleges across the state met to put forward their proposals regarding development and pending issues.

“This is for the first time that all the medical colleges could meet with the MCI together and have a two-way dialogue with the council,” said Jaynarayan Vyas,Minister of Health.

In the two-day seminar, the MCI agreed to implement clinical courses from the first year in medical colleges.

The team also declared that the compliance rate of medical courses offered in Gujarat was over 94 per cent, while in Maharashtra it was 60 per cent.

In a recent development, the MCI has asked all medical colleges to update their websites. It has also said that an assistant professor can be promoted only after a minimum number of his or her research papers are published in medical journals.

“The MCI will now strictly see that all colleges update their websites after every three months. We also intend to start a state-level house journal publication,” said Vyas,MD in Emergency Medicine.
