Deans of medical colleges from Gujarat held a meeting here on Sunday under Lok Sabha MP Dr Kirit Solanki to work out future plans following a refusal by the Medical Council of India (MCI) to start five new colleges. The institutes are GCS Medical College (Ahmedabad),Patan Medical College,Gandhinagar Medical College,Sola (Gandhinagar) and Gotri (Vadodara).
Dr Solanki said he would take up the issue with the MCI chief in a few days, and if need be,they will organise protests in New Delhi to press for their demands. He said the MCI was dilly-dallying in granting permission for 550 seats in all by raising “small issues like non-compliance” of the Council directives.
“They had allowed 150 seats in L G Medical College last year and the same they denied this year saying that facilities like MRI and CT scan were not found… but these will be required in fourth year,” he said.
