Russian president Dmitry Medvedev may propose alterations to the existing electoral system in the country.
He is expected to announce the changes in his annual address to the Federal Assembly.
Medvedev told Der Spiegel on Saturday that he had received different suggestions on that score, including from political leaders. Of the latest regional elections in October, he said, "On the whole they were held in quite an organised manner. I met with the [Duma] factions," he said.
Each faction is not quite pleased with its performance, but all of them agreed that the ultimate results of the elections reflected the current balance of force between political parties absolutely accurately, he said.
"Faction leaders made a number of suggestions on how to improve the voting procedure," Medvedev said, adding that he would "put forth my proposals on how to improve the electoral system" in the upcoming annual address.
