Meet of political parties, Dalit leaders to mark 75 years of Poona Pact

As the Poona Pact — between the Hindu caste leaders and the oppressed classes led by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar — will complete 75 years on September 24, a unique convention has been organised to mark the event where the Dalit and OBC leaders from various parties will share the dais at the BJ medical college ground.

A large number of Dalit, OBC leaders will participate in the meet, announced former MP and Bharipa Bahujan Mahasangh (BBM) leader Prakash Ambedkar.

Ambedkar said that he has spoken to several leaders and was keen on forming an alternate political front and that the BJP and Shiv Sena are expected to be part of the Front. "I will not divulge details now as talks are still on,'' he said at a press meet.

The leaders expected to attend the meet include BJP leader Gopinath Munde, Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mustaffa Faruki, Peasants and Workers Party leader and MLA Ganpatrao Deshmukh, Jansurajya leader and minister in the state cabinet Vinay Kore, Adivasi leaders Divakar Pedam, Laxman Mane, Dhangar community leader Haribhau Bhade and Annarao Patil.

Ambedkar came down heavily on the present political system calling it "insensitive" and said that next elections will answer this discontent. He said that a five year plan in terms of power, agriculture, employment and urban development has been readied.
