  • At least thirteen people were injured in three separate bomb blasts that rocked two districts — Khasi and Jaintia Hills — of Meghalaya since last night. The first blast occurred at around 9 p.m. at a garment shop located in Shillong’s Police Bazaar and the other two followed today afternoon at Ladrymbai in Jaintia Hills district.

State Home Minister RG Lyngdoh and top police officials are continuously monitoring the situation. Lyngdoh said the two blasts in Ladrymbai occurred in two separate gambling dens where nine people were injured. In Tuesday night Shillong blast, four persons were seriously injured when unidentified miscreants lobbed a crude bomb inside a garment shop Babla’s in Police Bazaar (Khyndailad). According to eyewitnesses, two motorbike borne youths were seen speeding away after they lobbed the bomb inside the shop through a half-open shutter.

Even as police officials were trying to find clues to the attack, two more blasts on Wednesday afternoon sent the police into a tizzy. Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police, who was in Shillong, immediately rushed to Ladrymbai in the afternoon. Lyngdoh, Director General of Police (DGP) WR Marbaniang and top police officials were attending an emergency meeting at the time of going to press. The bomb attacks appeared to be well planned but Lyngdoh said the linkage between them had to be established first.
