Mehdi Hassan ill, hospitalised in Karachi

    Noted Pakistani ghazal singer Mehdi Hassan was admitted in Aga Khan Hospital in Karachi on Wednesday evening after his health deteriorated.

    The singer was hospitalised following a lung ailment, reported the ‘Daily Times’. Hassan’s family has requested the nation to pray for his health, added the paper.

    Affectionately called Khan Sahib, Mehdi Hasan has been bestowed with the title "Shahenshah-e-Ghazal". He is a legendry Pakistani Ghazal singer and a former playback singer for Lollywood.

    He was born in the village of Luna in Rajasthan, India in 1927 into a family of rich traditional musicians, and claims to be the 16th generation of hereditary musicians.

He's the only a handful of Pakistanis whom Indians have a complete respect. I think he's a great personality, but unfortunately lived in a wrong country.

The Classical Ghazal which is his TradeMark cannot be rendered by anybody. Kahn Saab has sang all the great poets Ghalib, Mir, Momin, Faiz and even the new ones like Faraz. Qatil Shefai. Munir Niyazi, Parveen Shakir et el.Trivia: He took Naushad's MArmonium in 1944 and never returned it back. He said that Harmonium was an extension of his fingers and ANushaad Saab Too did not mind.He did struggle a lot in his early days working as mechanic etc. until his Brother Pandit Ghulam Qadir finally settled as a musician.Long Live Khan saab. And keep singing to make our hearts full through ears...
