Memorial at Hussainiwala to get a facelift

The Hussainiwala Memorial Trust will spend Rs 55 lakh to give a face lift to the statues of Bhagat Singh,Sukhdev and Rajguru installed here.

The Hussainiwala Memorial Trust will spend Rs 55 lakh to give a face lift to the statues of Bhagat Singh,Sukhdev and Rajguru installed here. The three martyrs were cremated at this place after they were hanged in Lahore and the memorial was built here.

The amount was sanctioned by the Centre more than three years ago,but it had been lying unused as the trust never held a meeting during this time.

Commissioner of Ferozepur and Faridkot division Raminder Singh,held a meeting on Friday where the decision was taken.

He said,“ There is lot to be done for beautification of this place and when we have the funds,why not utilise them.”

The platform on which the statues stand has developed cracks and the last time it was repaired was 20 years ago. We will also start a light and sound show here,he added. All the work will,however,start after March 23 —the martyrdom day of the three,he said.

“On weekends,more than 4,000 people come to see the retreat ceremony at Hussainiwala border. The lack of basic facilities disappoints them. We have the funds,and we need to bring a change,” Singh said.

will also be built. Most importantly,a sign will be put up at the entry point,” he said.The development of the park,boat club and toilets will be outsourced to private contractors,he added.
