The bad blood between two Bholath leaders, former SAD MLA Bibi Jagir Kaur and Bholath MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira, reached a flashpoint when their charged-up supporters got caught in a scuffle today afternoon in Ramgarh village. Had the police not intervened on time, the scuffle would have turned into an uncontrollable clash.
Around 100 supporters of the Bibi today reached Ramgarh village to burn Khaira's effigy in protest against a complaint filed by him to the EC. The MLA had alleged in the complaint that administrative and police officers were supporting the Bibi in the elections.
Supporters of Khaira also reached the site in multitudes. Police personnel present in large number, stopped the supporters of both the sides midway.
DSP Mahinder Singh said some workers sustained minor injuries. Meanwhile, Khaira has also filed a complaint with the Punjab Chief Electoral Officer, seeking action against the Bibi who, he alleged, was vitiating the atmosphere with communal speeches.
Notably, the Bibi has been alleging in the past few days that Khaira had used derogatory reference for her Lubana community while sending a complaint to the EC against six officials of the community.
Khaira, however, denied making a statement against the community. He said Bibi’s inflammatory poll meetings be videographed.
