Meru Cab drivers in Mumbai threaten strike from January 22

Meru Cab Chalak Sena, a Shiv Sena-affiliated union of drivers, has threatened strike from January 22 if company management failed to meet its listed demands.

The union had submitted 21 demands to the company Wednesday. The demands concerned subscription charges and other overheads they have to pay to the fleet taxi service and weekly offs.

"At the time of joining Meru Cab, the company told drivers they would get ownership of the vehicle after four years in service. But that has not happened. If the car breaks down, the company takes maintenance and repair charges from us. If the vehicle is not ours why should we pay?" said Sambaji Bhosale, general secretary of the union.

He claimed the drivers were forced to work 30 days a month even though the company had said weekly offs would be introduced.
