Anticipating heavy rush when the India International Trade Fair opens for the public on Thursday, the Delhi Metro has put in process plans to ensure smooth operations. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will run 80 additional trips on Line-3 (Dwarka Sector 9 to Noida City Centre), which connects with Pragati Maidan. It has also set up 44 additional token counters.
On Tuesday, DMRC decided that runs on Line-3 will be increased from 410 to 490, starting Thursday. Last year, the footfall at Pragati Maidan station during the Trade Fair was 50,000 passengers per day — against its normal daily ridership of 16,000. DMRC expects traffic to increase this year, especially with the opening of the Noida line.
“All manual (token) counters may be earmarked for particular destination and denomination of token. To avoid intermingling of passengers and to control crowd in a managed way, all tokens will be sold from ground floor only. No tokens will be sold from concourse level,” DMRC spokesperson Anuj Dayal said.
Fair tickets will be sold from all Metro stations and Rs 10 discount will be given on the purchase of every ticket.
Metro trains delayed
Delhi Metro trains were delayed for some time on Wednesday, the second time in a week, due to a “technical problem”. Metro officials said the delay was “only for a few minutes” as the serial number of a train got lost due to software malfunctioning. But passengers alleged that the trains were delayed for about 15 to 20 minutes. PTI
