Debris clearance operations continued at the Delhi Metro accident site in south Delhi even as one-way traffic in the area was thrown open on Tuesday to facilitate movement of vehicles.

Cranes, which toppled on Monday leaving six injured, have been removed from the accident spot.

Commuters in the area had some respite on Tuesday morning as one-way traffic was opened on the Moolchand-Jamrudpur-Nehru Place route.

Traffic has been at a standstill in areas leading to the mishap site in Jamrudpur, where six persons were killed after an under-construction bridge collapsed on Sunday.

Vehicular movement towards Nehru Place, one of the capital's main commercial hubs, has been badly affected with traffic chaos in many places like Greater Kailash, Amar Colony, Moolchand and East of Kailash.

Water supply is yet to be restored in the area which witnessed a pipe-burst after a portion of the collapsed bridge fell on it. Power supply has also been temporarily snapped.

Delhi Metro spokesperson Anuj Dayal had on Monday said traffic on one road is likely to be open by this afternoon and the other lane will be open in six to seven days, by which time the whole clearing up operation is expected to be completed.

Delhi Metro chief E Sreedharan inspected the site this morning and spoke to officials engaged in debris clearance operations.

This is the fifth time in three days that Sreedharan has visited the site. He had visited the site thrice on Monday.
