Metro: Notification issued for special purpose vehicle,fare structure approved

Giving a push to the proposed Metro rail project for the city,the state government has issued a notification to set up a special purpose vehicle for the implementation of the project,along with an in-principle approval to the fare structure for the service which is expected to be not much costlier than the PMPML fare.
The government has approved Vanaz to Ramwadi route of Metro rail. The powers of implementing the project will be on the lines of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) would act as an executive body for the project till the formation of the new company.
As per the earlier discussion,the government gave an in-principle nod to raise the funds for the project with 10 per cent share by PMC,20 per cent share by the state government,20 per cent by the Union government and remaining 50 per cent from loans and other financial resources. However,it clarified that the state government’s share of 20 per cent of the total project cost would include the expenses on acquiring land,including government land,on market price.
It also approved proposed fare structure for the Metro. The fare for first 2 kms would be Rs 7 which is more than the fare of Rs 5 of the PMPML for the same distance. The maximum fare would be Rs 24 for more than 30 kms. The notification also stated that the fare structure can undergo change as per the local condition and situation during the service.
The government empowered the urban development department to control the development activities along the route of the Metro and announced it as a public project.
A nod was also given for setting up a high-power committee led by chief secretary to take policy decision.
