The Delhi Metro recorded its highest ever ridership on June 13 when about 17 lakh people took the service. The Delhi Metros figure of 16,93,488 surpassed the previous record of 16,66,569 on Monday,stated an official DMRC statement. The second highest ridership was recorded on Tuesday when 16,73,801 people took the service.
According to officials,the increase in ridership can be attributed to the ongoing Delhi University admission process and the increase in temperatures as records show that the figures peak generally during this time of the year.
DMRC is registering a ridership of over 16 lakh on working days for the first time this month. The average ridership which used to be around 15.5 lakh during weekdays till May is now touching 16.5 lakh in June,an increase of over one lakh passengers daily, said an official DMRC spokesperson.
On Monday,Line 3/4 (Dwarka Sector 9 – Noida City Centre/ Anand Vihar) recorded the maximum ridership at 6,47,738 followed by Line 2 (Jahangirpuri – HUDA City Centre) at 5,99,384 and Line 1 (Rithala – Dilshad Garden) at 2,88,972. The increase in ridership was mainly reported from Line 2 and Line 3/4.
The ridership of Line 2 in May was 4.9 lakh per day,which has now gone up to 5.42 lakh this month. The ridership on Line 3/4 in May stood at 5.78 lakh which is now around 6.2 lakh per day.
