For over two decades, filmmaker Zhang Yimou has fuelled the cinematic world's interest in China through his hugely-popular films such as House of Flying Daggers, Hero, Curse of The Golden Flower and Raise the Red Lantern. This acclaimed Chinese director, producer, writer and actor will be awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 14th Mumbai Film Festival (MFF), scheduled to be held at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), Mumbai, from October 18-25.
The scale of this Asian filmmaker's movies is usually large and action-packed, while the stories are rooted in China's heritage and culture. These unique qualities about his movies has helped this prolific director to be in the league of select oriental filmmakers who have successfully made a transition to mainstream Western cinema.
Yimou has been conferred several notable international accolades, including the Grand Jury Prize at Cannes for his film To Live. In 2008, he received widespread global acclaim for directing the opening and closing ceremonies for the Beijing Summer Olympic Games.
