To ensure foolproof security during the Commonwealth Games, the Centre on Tuesday reviewed the security arrangements to be adopted for the mega event scheduled to be held in the capital in 2010.
A meeting of the Empowered Security Committee headed by Union Home Secretary and Commonwealth Games Security Review Committee headed by Additional Secretary (Centre-State) took stock of the measures being taken for conducting smooth and incident-free sports extravaganza.
"The meeting reviewed security arrangements at construction sites as part of security vetting of construction plans," a Home Ministry official said.
The Home Ministry has issued security guidelines at under-construction sites to all the concerned venue owners for implementation. Accordingly, steps have been taken by venue owners on police verification of workers, perimeter security and access control.
"The construction plans for all venues including the Commonwealth Games village are being vetted by Delhi Police from security point of view," the official said.
A Special Task Force (STF) is being set up for the overall security of the Games Village and sports venues, considering the vulnerability of the National Capital Region.
"The STF will comprise existing resources of Delhi Police for overall security and traffic management," the official said.
There would be proper coordination between the STF, venue security and Delhi Police for intelligence sharing, reinforcement of human and material sources.
The STF also might have to deal with sudden contingency situations requiring assistance of other civic agencies, central police forces or crisis management centres, he said.
