  • In a bid to avert ragging in campuses and to provide an efficient system which students can resort to in case they experience such incidents, a city based NGO, VidYuth, along with Congress MP Milind Deora has planned to set up an action effective anti-ragging monitoring mechanism.

As per the plan, a committee comprising eminent personalities from different walks of life, NGOs and student representatives, will be set up soon, writes Deora on his blog.

Anshuman Sinha, an investment banker and the founder of VidYuth, says, “Support from Milind Deroa will help us and we are looking forward to start working soon.” VidYuth has been actively carrying out anti-ragging campaigns in colleges across the city for a long time. “We found that while many colleges in Mumbai are taking efforts to avert ragging, it is still prevalent in a few colleges in the city since students prefer not to complain for the fear of being termed outcast,” said Sinha. VidYuth has also been working to highlight various other issues such as slum rehabilitation.

Sinha’s organisation has also roped in Dr Raj Kachroo, father of Aman Kachroo, a medical student who had succumbed to injuries he endured after he had been ragged by his seniors in his college in Himachal Pradesh. Citing the need to introduce such a system in Mumbai colleges, Deora writes in his blog that he had expressed to the ‘CM and relevant Ministers of State my (his) dismay and deep concern with the recent spate of dangerous ragging activities in our country resulting in tragic deaths of numerous innocent students.’
