A woman police constable today breast-fed a one and half month old baby who was crying for food in Burdwan district, police sources said.
The Memari police station received a telephone call around 11 am informing them that a woman was beating her baby child at Haira area, the sources said.
Soon the police reached the spot and rescued the baby who was being beaten up by her "mentally disturbed" mother, the sources said.
The baby along with her mother was brought to the police station. Seeing the baby crying for food, woman constable Suman Ghosh, who herself had her seven month old baby breastfeed the baby, they said.
The police after interrogating the woman found out she was a resident of Chapanatala area of Burdwan town. They later informed her family members and sent both the baby and her mother home, the sources added.
