A day after Majlis-e-Itehad-ul-Muslimeen (MIM) legislators attacked exiled Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen, the party threatened to implement a “fatwa” against her on Friday. “There is a fatwa against her and the fatwa is one and all for the entire Muslim world, whether it is Salman Rushdie or Taslima Nasreen,” said Akbaruddin Owaisi, MIM leader.
Meanwhile, the CPI(M) condemned the attack saying it goes against the democratic and secular character of the Indian polity. “One may have differences over the writings ... but this definitely is not a way to express dissent,” the CPI(M) Politburo said in a statement.
