Returning to Bollywood after three years,Tabu says there’s more to life than acting

The last time she was seen on the screen was three years back, when she was romancing Amitabh Bachchan on the streets of London in Cheeni Kum . But actor Tabu, who is making her comeback in the Kedar Shinde-directed romantic-comedy Toh Baat Pakki!,is loathe to admit that she was ever missing from action. “I have been busy with a few Telugu projects during this period. Anyway,I like to work at my own pace and don’t like people telling me what I ought to be doing,” replies Tabu, adding,“I just want to enjoy every day of my life and not get worried about sticking to schedules and meeting deadlines anymore.”

Working in films,in fact,is almost like a picnic these days, she candidly remarks.

In Toh Baat Pakki! which also stars Sharman Joshi,Vatsal Sheth and Yuvika Chowdhury,Tabu portrays a boisterous and over protective sister,Rajeshwari, who is determined to find a suitable match for her younger sister. A woman with a mind of her own,she doesn’t consider anybody else’s opinions when hunting for a suitable groom and grills two suitors for her sister’s hand. “In real life I am not a bossy person. So I thought the character was fun since there was an element of mischief in her. Also since the film is a light family entertainer, there aren’t complex layers to the character and I don’t have to apply my brains to it,” she explains.

For someone who is a recipient of two National Film Awards and countless other awards,Tabu says she is no longer running for glory. “After Namesake I decided to distance myself from my commotion-filled world. I didn’t want awards to take away from who I really was. I realised that acting was not the only thing I wanted to experience,it was only a small part of what I was meant to be doing,” she remarks philosophically.

After catching up with her childhood hobby of photography, purchasing a compact digital camera, taking up a beginner’s course in Spanish and dabbling with writing,Tabu says she now feels energised to act, once again. “I started developing a lot of objectivity in my thinking. I let go off all the past baggage and began enjoying myself more,” she says.

The time off has also allowed her to shed some personal baggage as well. “I was only 15 when I entered the industry. I was naive then and had to adapt myself to that groove just to continue working. But now things are different,I am a much more sorted person,” she says. With her next project,Vicky Chopra’s Season’s Greetings stalled indefinitely,Tabu though is again in the mood of a holiday. “I will go for a quick vacation to the US after I wrap up promotions for this film,” she smiles.
