  • Almost a month after AIIMS registrar VP Gupta was transferred to Ballabhgarh in Haryana following a decision by the institute’s Vigilance Committee that found him to be “under-qualified and misusing the post”, AIIMS director P Venugopal on Saturday issued fresh orders to Gupta to join his new duty without delay.

On December 9, Gupta was transferred to the rural health centre in Ballabhgarh. But the transfer was stayed in 24 hours by Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss. Following the order, Gupta’s room was locked and his belongings sealed. Gupta then called the police.

The five-page order was issued today despite Ramadoss's December 10 order in which the minister had said “the director is not competent to take any decision regarding Gupta’s service and job responsibility” and that the matter would be raised in the Governing Body meeting to be held on January 22.

On Saturday, the director also issued a memorandum to all department heads making it clear that Gupta is not “authorised” to issue a memorandum or circular in the name of Academic Section of AIIMS without the approval of the director.
