  • Guardian Minister Dileep Deshmukh said the administration is thinking of making a separate provision for children affected with AIDS in Latur.

As reported earlier, 10 children suffering from the disease are staying in the Ashram Sevalaya in the village, run by Amhi Sevak, an organization serving orphans and children inflicted with the disease.

The affected children were admitted in the ZP school due to which parents of 148 children out of the 240 have stopped sending their children to the school.

Education Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil had on Friday ordered a probe into the matter and directed the Latur Collector Ekanth Dawale to submit report within two days.

Deshmukh, after meeting the villagers said it is not proper to take action against the parents.

"The parents are afraid that their children will also be affected by AIDS. We will think of making some separate provision for these children. We will also try to discuss the matter with the Chief Minister and do our best to sort out the issue amicably," Deshmukh said.

Reacting to Deshmukh's statement, Director of the 'Sevalaya' Ravi Bapatley said, "It is the society that has given me the land and the money to run the organisation and the ashram for the AIDS and HIV-affected children. These children have very short life and even in this shorter span of life should they be kept away from the society?"

Kaustubh Vikas Amte of the Anandvan, established by Baba Amte, also visited the Sevalya in the Hasegaon village.

"On one hand, government is spending crores of rupees for AIDS awareness campaigns and on the other hand it is thinking of keeping such children separately out of the society, this is contradictory to the government's policy," Amte said.

Poor PolityBy: Udit Vashisht | 13-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward What has happened to the politicians of India, when the whole world is trying to aware the people about the HIV, some foolish leader of India is planning to cut off the HIV ve students from the society by making some separate arrangements for them, this will certain the thoughts of the illiterate or mislead people of India that AIDS is a communicable disease. Money he is planning to spend on setting up new school and ashram must be spent on the awareness campaign. And, please let the poor children, live their remaining life as normals.
RE:Seperate school for chidren with HIVBy: Sanjana | 13-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward What the heck is happening?A seperate school for the children with HIV? Doesn't the Govt have a duty to serve everyone with equality.Insetead of creating awareness abt HIV,they are actually going to facilitate an isolation for those poor innocent kids. The best solution is to bring the whole village together and teach them that HIV is not contagious.I am sure there are volunteers out there who are willing to create awareness. Please dont let that happen. Those kids dont deserve it.
Hiv Affected children/ OthersBy: shanthanu | 13-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward Sympathy to suffering children is commendable but it should not be mistaken to abandoning precaution that other children are not affected by the dreaded decease. How much awareness programs are conducted and parents invited to educate them about the safety and security of their wards ? The number of students with HIV being only 10 and the rest 230 students, it is imperative that the decease is confined only within this minimum number than creating an atmosphere of confrontation with parents who are naturally worried for their children"s safety.
