A day after a 25-year-old woman died in Swarrop Rani Nehru Hospital due to alleged medical negligence, state Health Minister Anant Kumar Mishra warned the authorities to “mend their ways or face the music” after a surprise visit on Wednesday.
In the line of fire was the principal of the state-owned Moti Lal Nehru Medical College, Dr P C Saxena, and the Senior Medical Superintendent Dr Shradhha Dwivedi.
Reacting over the recurring reports of clash and alleged misbehaviour with the patients and attendants by the hospital staff, Mishra said: “I have asked the hospital authorities to behave properly with the patients and the attendants. Any report of misbehaviour by any hospital staff would now be dealt with sternly.”
Mishra inspected the hospital and held an hour-long meeting with the authorities. Mishra was representing Health Education Minister Lalji Verma.
“In the meeting, the authorities were asked to improve the medical services. The principal was also asked to send a report about doctors who still indulge in private practice,” said a senior doctor who attended the meeting.
On Tuesday, the hospital staff clashed with the attendants of one Baby Naaz following protest over her death owing to the long wait in the ultrasound department.
Naaz, who was undergoing post-pregnancy complications, died while waiting for ultrasound.
The attendants alleged that the staff and technicians were demanding money from them for speedy service.
