  • To come out of recession and also to compete with the outside world, lean manufacturing is the new formula being popularised by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME). Under this plan, the industry is being told to have inventory of only one day, they should buy the raw material in the morning and should dispatch the product of the same raw material by evening and hence they can earn more profits and can reduce their production losses by a big margin. A special programme is going to be started by MSME, to popularise this formula.

In Punjab, it will start from this month in the way of three awareness seminars. This was disclosed by Madhav Lal, development commissioner MSME while inaugurating the first international exhibition of Machine Tool Association at Research and Development(R&D) Centre in Ludhiana .

It needs to be mentioned that at the moment the industry is having inventory period ranging from 30 days to 3 months and a few are even having it upto six months as well.

Kirpal Singh, President of Ludhiana Machine Tools exhibition said, “This was a new information for our industry and the MSME department will be throwing more light on it shortly. At the moment, our delayed inventory is causing production loss and even reducing our profit margins as well. If this formula works well, our work efficiency can also improve a lot.”

MSME meanwhile will be spending on organising the entire awareness programme and industry will have to provide space for organizing seminars. To solve the skilled labour problem, it was suggested that machine tool industry should make a training and design school under the cluster programme in which the labour can be trained and later can be absorbed within their industry.

    ... contd.
