Ministry steps in as police,DIAL bicker over rent at IGI Airport

Owing to this disagreement,the proposed project of a hi-tech police station-cum-office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police at the IGIA is now in limbo.

The letter,dated September 27,2013,states that while CISF personnel are given free office space by DIAL and are also paid by them,the Delhi Police is not paid anything by DIAL,and is instead being charged a lease amount.

“They (DIAL) had demanded Rs 40,94,966 plus service tax towards rental amount for two sites,i.e. space in the domestic terminal and land allotted for the police station-cum-DCP office at IGIA which is not justified,” the letter states.

Delhi Police sources said DIAL had been demanding

Rs 6 crore as rent,but it was later brought down to Rs 41 lakh.

“It is relevant to mention that in cities like Hyderabad,Mumbai and Bangalore,the respective state police is provided with all infrastructure,free of cost by the airport construction companies,” the letter reads.

The signatory has further said,“… kindly issue necessary directions to DIAL not to charge any rental for the accommodation/space occupied by the Delhi Police personnel at the IGIA as is being done in the case of accommodation of the CISF personnel at the IGIA.”

A DIAL spokesperson said,“Delhi Police and the Airport Authority of India (AAI),which was originally in-charge of the IGIA,had agreed upon a rent amount. We have only carried this forward.”

But the Delhi Police denied this,saying,“There was no such agreement between us and the AAI.”
