  • The UPA Government is trying to get actor Aamir Khan to do promos for the Tourism Ministry’s Incredible India campaign.

The Ministry is understood to be in consultation with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra of Rang de Basanti fame to direct Aamir in these promos. A meeting was held in Minister Ambika Soni’s chamber on Wednesday where the subject was discussed. Mehra has apparently told the Ministry that Aamir is keen to be part of the Incredible India campaign which promotes the country’s unique culture and heritage. Recently, the Tourism Ministry gave permission to Mehra to shoot his latest film, Dilli 6, at various heritage sites and monuments in and around Delhi.

The Ministry is understood to have proposed to Mehra to make two sets of promos: one of 60 seconds and the other of 30 for Rs 60 lakh and Rs 30 lakh respectively. The Ministry is of the view that Aamir, “known for his espousal of various national causes”, will be able to attract attention in an “effective” way.

When contacted, Tourism Joint Secretary Leena Nandan said the director had met the Tourism Minister regarding his “film’s shoots at tourist sites” but declined to comment on Aamir Khan’s involvement.
