  • A minor altercation led to the death of two persons at a transit camp near the Khar railway station on Thursday night. One of the victims, Vakil Chauhan (22), was involved in an argument with two locals. The argument turned violent when the locals allegedly beat Vakil and his brother Anish Chauhan (19) with bamboo sticks.

They fled the spot after this. The brothers were rushed to a hospital. Anish was declared dead before admission at Sion Hospital while his brother died while he was under treatment at Bhabha Hospital the next day. The Nirmal Nagar police have registered a case of murder and are on a lookout for the accused.

“The Chauhans were carpenters and worked for a railway contractor,” said an officer of the Nirmal Nagar police. “On the day of the incident Vakil was having an argument with some local residents about a few general issues. The argument heated up and they began assaulting him. Anish came to the transit camp and attempted to stop the fight but they hit him with bamboo sticks. When the accused realised that Vakil and Anish were injured seriously they fled the scene. We have registered a case of murder,” said the officer adding, “The brothers were natives of Uttar Pradesh and have no relatives in the city.”
