During the hearing of the case of missing baby at the Sion hospital, city Police Commissioner Hasan Gafoor assured the Bombay High Court on Wednesday that all possible steps have been taken to trace the baby.
Gafoor, who was present in court as per the earlier order, submitted that a Special Investigation Team has been constituted under DCP Zone IV to locate the missing baby.
Meanwhile, the BMC has informed the court that an inquiry committee headed by the dean of Nair Hospital has been constituted to fix the responsibility in the case.
The court has also taken note of the submissions from the hospital which has now beefed up the security and has also installed CCTVs to prevent such an incident in the future. Other measures are also in the offing, the hospital has assured the court.
Meanwhile, the division bench of Justice Bilal Nazki and Justice Anoop Mohta has stayed the suspension of the doctor and nurse suspended last week based on court directions.
The suspension was stayed after BMC counsel K K Singhvi and advocates appearing for the doctor pointed out that the doctor and nurse were only clinically responsible and were not in charge of the ward. “Suspension has been stayed till responsibility is fixed,” Justice Nazki stated.
The court also observed that the corporation has taken the matter with some seriousness and directed that the enquiry committee should file a report in a sealed envelope within 10 days.
The court has also directed the SIT to file progress report in a sealed envelope every week with the Registrar of the High Court. During the arguments the court questioned as to who can be held responsible.
