The Bombay High Court has called for records from the magistrate’s court in connection with a petition moved by a woman for tracing her husband who has absconded with their four-year-old child.

Priti Chug had moved the court after her husband Bunty Chug, who runs a powerloom business in the city, absconded with son Sujal on November 14, 2008, the day the former was supposed to get custody of the child following earlier court orders. The records were called for after Chug’s lawyer contended that the lower court had granted bail to Bunty’s family members and a plea for lie detector tests on them had been pending for seven weeks.

The state police had last month handed over the investigation of the case to the Ulhasnagar Crime Branch. Bunty’s father and brother had appeared in the court earlier and had submitted that they do not have any information on the whereabouts of Bunty and Sujal. The court had warned them they would get into big trouble if things turn otherwise.

After numerous proceedings in the lower court and the high court, it was ordered in October 2008 that the child should be handed over to the mother. Priti now fears that Bunty might leave the country with the child as he has connections in Dubai and Germany.
