The IIT-Kanpur student, who went missing a month ago during a trip to Delhi, is safe and is accompanying a British girl identified as Amy Blackpearl, police said on Friday.
Arko Roy (24), final year student of computer science engineering, has been missing since September 9 and he had last contacted his father on October 3.
Kanpur DIG B P Jogdand said a police team has been sent to Delhi to trace him. According to him, Arko had sent e-mails to his friends saying that he and Amy had visited Rishikesh, Hardwar, Chandigarh, Nainital and Varanasi after leaving the institute.
“We came to know that Arko had applied for a French visa and had gone to Delhi on September 9 in this connection. While in Delhi, he met Amy,” said the DIG, adding that they had identified some cybercafés in Delhi where he had visited.
Jogdand, however, expressed surprise on why the youth was neither contacting his institute nor his parents, who have been camping in Kanpur since October 15.
After Arko, who hails from Durgapur, failed to return to the institute by first week of October, his batchmates informed the authorities about his absence, following which his family was also informed.
The authorities and the student’s family had filed a missing complaint with the Kalyanpur police on October 20.
Currently, a team of the special operation group and Kalyanpur police station are jointly working on the case. They have also approached Delhi Police for assistance.
