  • Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi was booked for threatening to kill Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen even as the Andhra Pradesh State Human Rights Commission termed the recent attack on the exiled novelist as a flagrant violation of human rights on Sunday.

A case was registered against Owaisi, MIM floor leader in the Assembly, on Saturday night under Section 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC, DCP (West Zone) Madhusudan Reddy said here.

He said the case was filed after a local court granted permission in this regard.

Owaisi had allegedly threatened to kill the writer if she visited Hyderabad again. The MLA, however, was not arrested. Earlier, the police had registered a case against Nasreen for promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race and language on a complaint filed by Akbaruddin.

The legislator alleged the author had hurt sentiments of the faithful with her writings and speeches against Islam.
