Chief Minister Sheila Dikshits parliamentary secretary and Jangpura MLA Tarwinder Singh Marwah has been accused of getting his daughter admitted to a Delhi University college on forged documents.
Officials of the Mata Sundri College for Women complained to police on Saturday that the academic records of his daughter, submitted by Marwah along with an admission request last year, were fudged.
Chairman of the colleges governing body S Tejwant Singh told Newsline that the fraud came to light during routine verification by Officiating Principal Kawar Jit Kaur. We have referred the matter to the police as well as Delhi University administration, Singh said.
Marwah was not available for comments despite repeated calls.
A senior police officer said the complaint was received on Saturday. We have not registered a criminal case yet. We will examine the documents and ascertain the claim. If needed,we will question Marwah, the officer said.
According to the college complaint, copies of which were circulated to journalists on Monday by BJP Delhi chief Vijender Gupta, the Class XII marksheet of Marwahs daughter Jasmine was forged.
College authorities admitted Jasmine to a BA course in July last year based on marksheets and school documents, which were attached with a request from Marwah on his official letterhead.
According to the complaint, the papers showed Jasmine scored 51 per cent in Class XII at the Madhya Pradesh State Open School in Bhopal.
In the complaint, college authorities said the seal of the Additional Director,Exams,of the Madhya Pradesh State Open School and the marksheet were forged.
Despite a number of reminders, they (Marwah) have failed to give any explanation. I am convinced that the certificates are forged,as reported by the Madhya Pradesh State Open School, the complaint stated.
The college received an anonymous tip-off,specifically about Marwahs daughter,at the time when police unearthed a fake marksheet scam in Delhi University admissions.
The admission request, allegedly sent by Marwah on July 5,carried with it the admission form,a migration certificate and a migration certificate-cum-transfer certificate purportedly claiming that she had cleared Class XII.
After the college authorities sent a messenger to verify the documents, the open school in Bhopal sent a reply on July 19 confirming that Marwahs daughter had never attended any class and no certificate was issued, according to the complaint.
We demand the arrest of Marwah. Police should not hesitate in registering an FIR when the college has given complaint regarding forgery, said Gupta.
