BJP MLA Jitendra Daga was on Tuesday questioned by the Uttar Pradesh Police in connection with the death of an official of Bhopal Development Authority, whose body was found on a railway track near Agra on September 11.
The MLA from Huzur constituency and BDA Chief Executive Officer M G Rusiya had flown together to New Delhi on September 10 morning and were on their way back to Bhopal by a train in the night. Daga had claimed that he was not aware how the official went missing.
“I am ready to accompany the policemen to the spot where the body was found,” he told The Indian Express, but did not clarify whether he had been asked to do so. He said that he gave a detailed statement to the UP Police on the sequence of events since they boarded the train together.
The BDA is developing areas on the outskirts of the capital where Daga and his family own land running into crores. Daga, an aide of senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj, was keen on saving as much land as possible from being acquired by the authority.
“About 2,500 acre land belonging to villagers is being acquired. We own only a part of it,” said Daga, adding that he had accompanied Rusiya to Delhi to discuss land acquisition with a Supreme Court lawyer. “The lawyer is known to me,” he admitted, but saw nothing wrong in accompanying a government official on what he termed was an official visit. He said the land falls in his constituency and he was representing scores of villagers.
