  • After former MP from Sabarkantha Madhusudan Mistry fired a broadside at the ‘corporate management methods’ of state party president Siddharth Patel, more Gujarat Congress leaders have come out in the open to air similar complaints. This includes three Muslim MLAs from Ahmedabad who claim the state party boss is not consulting them while making important policy and party decisions regarding their constituencies.

The three ‘upset’ MLAs, alongwith some other leaders from their constituencies, even held a meeting on October 14 to decide about the “future course of action”. They are now considering approaching the party high command in Delhi in this regard.

Farooq Sheikh of Kalupur Assembly seat said Muslim legislators were not kept in the loop by Patel while finalising candidates for Junagadh corporation elections or the Assembly bypolls. They were also not consulted when Patel cleared the names of office-bearers for party units in 16 Assembly constituencies of Ahmedabad last week, he said. “Our interests are being overlooked and we will complain about this to the high command,” said Sheikh.

Former minister Raghavji Patel, who is sitting MLA from Jamnagar, said the leadership needed to make efforts to revitalise the party. “All of us need to do chintan to know why Congress’s position has deteriorated to such an extent and why we are not able to face Narendra Modi,” he said, adding that the high command would certainly find a “solution” to the ills plaguing the party here.
