MNS goes to cops against fake Facebook, Twitter accounts of Raj Thackeray's children

MNS reported to police Friday "objectionable material" posted on fake Twitter and Facebook accounts of children of party chief Raj Thackeray.

In a written complaint to the cyber cell, it claimed identities of Urvashi and Amit were being misused to post objectionable material on social fora.

"We decided to approach police as Facebook matters are sensitive now with so many events happening around," said Anil Shidore, party general secretary.

Shidore, in-charge of MNS IT wing, said the party had informed police in 2011 about fake Twitter handles on Raj. "Our sympathisers have over the past two years asked creators of these fake profiles to back off. While some have, others continue to post tweets."

Shidore said while the party had lost count of fake profiles, it had a fair idea of the material being posted.

"We felt the time had come as some messages had begun to be confusing and misleading."

Internet search showed a Twitter account with Amit Thackeray as a tweet handle with a photograph of Aditya Thackeray.

All tweets were against UP migrants constantly referring to them as bhaiyas.

Another one with Urvashi Thackeray had this post dated Feb 24: "Why such hue and cry, these minor incidents happen all over the world all the time. It is just a publicity stunt."

MNS secretary Harshal Deshpande said: "We had formally informed police in 2011 that none of the (Thackeray) family members had an official account on any social networking site. They had told us they could not block an account unless there was misuse."

He said MNS had told police all accounts operating in the name of Amit, Urvashi and Raj Thackeray were "illegal".

Joint commissioner of police Himanshu Roy said, "We received a complaint and action has been taken."
