VIDARBHA : Party says wont allow states division, opposes demand
With the Telangana development triggering demands for separate statehood to Vidarbha in the Assembly, the party said it would oppose the breaking up of Maharashtra.
Congress leader Vilas Muttemwar had met the Prime Minister, seeking statehood to Vidarbha following the Telangana decision.
The Centre had asked the Andhra Pradesh Government to begin the process for formation of a separate Telangana state following violent protests in Hyderabad and an indefinite fast by Telangana Rashtra Samithi chief K Chandrasekhara Rao.
MNS leader in Assembly Bala Nandgaonkar said the party would not deviate from its objective of a unified Maharashtra.
Raj (Thackeray) has always maintained that he is dedicated to the entire state and there are no divisions in the state. We will never allow it to be divided into parts.
The MNS chief is scheduled to begin a state-wide tour from Vidharbha on January 1,where he will expouse the party stand through public meetings. The tour follows the partys good show in the recent Assembly elections.
The party has maintained that the sacrifice of 105 martyrs of the unified Maharashtra Movement would not be allowed to go waste by the division of the state.
