  • Two youths were lynched by an irate mob in Lakshmanpur near Domjur in Howrah on early Thursday after they were suspected to be involved in stealing mobile phones, money and ornaments from morning walkers.

According to the police, a mob attacked Gopal Das (34) and Biswajit Sardar (35) after they were found stalking a woman. The victims, along with another person, residents of Salap in Howrah, were on a motorbike when they were following the woman.

After the woman raised an alarm, the morning walkers intercepted the youths and started asking questions. One of them, however, managed to flee. When the duo failed to give satisfactory reply, locals tied Gopal and Biswajit to a pole and started beating them with logs. Locals continued beating them till they fell unconscious.

Police took the youths to the Howrah State General Hospital where Gopal was declared brought dead on arrival and Biswajit was admitted with critical injuries. Later, Biswajit succumbed to his injuries.
