Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Friday announced Rs 1 crore as a “sanmaan rashi” in honour of the officers of the Mumbai police who died in the gun battle with terrorists on Wednesday night.
Top officers of the Mumbai police, including Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) chief Hemant Karkare died in the fire-fight with the terrorists.
Modi made this announcement to his Maharashtra counterpart during his Friday visit to the city, where he met relatives of the slain policemen, including the families of Karkare and encounter specialist Inspector Vijay Salaskar.
Modi had been highly critical of the Mumbai ATS only a few weeks ago after it zeroed in on alleged Hindu terror suspects following the probe into the Malegoan blast.
An official statement issued here this evening said that Modi visited the J J Hospital and inquired about the health of those injured in the multiple terror attacks. The CM also visited the area near Oberoi Hotel where senior officers briefed him on the ongoing battle between the security forces and the terrorists.
