Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has done it again: this time he’s done a Lal Bahadur Shastri on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Targeting the PM for his lack of direction, Modi urged him to request the nation to observe a weekly fast in order to tide over the prevailing price rise and food shortage.

Speaking at a public function in Bilimora town of south Gujarat, Modi sought the PM’s social leadership in urging the nation to observe a one-meal day at least once a week, Modi demanded Singh’s resolve and inspiration to fight against the national issue.

“It is our biggest misfortune that there is no political will at the central level to give us any leadership and direction. In a similar situation years ago when the nation had passed through a food scarcity, the then Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri had appealed for a weekly fast and got people’s support. Can’t the PM make a similar appeal now?” he said while unveiling a statue of the Maratha chieftain Shivaji at the city centre.
