Modi calls for scientific methods to strengthen internal security

“The conventional security and safety management system demands a paradigm shift in work style through scientific research and analysis,” he added.

On the importance of local information gathering,Modi said: “Former Rajasthan CM Bhairon Singh Shekhwat had joined police as a constable. When he was the CM,he faced a challenging situation when a top Congressman’s son was abducted. He used his police training and asked his officers to find out only one thing: if there was any house in the neighbouring villages that was ordering extra milk. The officers traced the house and the child was found.”

Joint Director of the Gujarat Police Academy Vinod Mall said there was a need for changes in training of police officers to make them learn methods of facing situations of Naxalism and terrorism. He said that training officers in cyber laws,explosives and internet threats among others was essential.

Retired BSF DG M L Kumavat said the youth being trained at RSU and other colleges should be taught the need for internal security.

Rakesh Jaruhar,Special DG of CRPF Kolkata,said that human resource is a problem in para-military forces due to lack of willingness of the government to spend on security. “Making battalions is of no use when the police lack skills of general policing,” he said.
