Chief Minister Narendra Modi is likely to raise the issue of terrorism at the National Integration Council’s (NIC) meeting called by the Prime Minister in New Delhi on Monday, though the same has been reportedly removed from the agenda.
Sources close to Modi said on Sunday that since NIC usually takes up the contentious issues of country’s security and integrity, the chief minister might raise the issue of terrorism during the deliberations at the Monday meeting, which is to be attended by the chief ministers of all states.
Modi had already suggested to the UPA government at the Centre to chalk out a strategy to curb terrorist activities and also strengthen the Intelligence apparatus, sources said, especially in the wake of July 26 serial blasts in Ahmedabad and the recovery of live bombs in Surat.
“It is in this context that our chief minister may raise the issue of terrorism at the NIC meet on Monday. He has already written to the Prime Minister in protest against the topic of terrorism being removed from the agenda of NIC’s meeting at the eleventh hour. He has also faxed a copy of the protest letter to all the chief ministers,” sources said.
At the NIC meet, Modi will also speak about the various measures his government has initiated to remove economic imbalance in Gujarat. Besides other things, economic imbalance is one of the main topics on the Council's agenda. On this front, he will apprise the participants of the three multi-crore schemes the Gujarat government has launched in the state for the socio-economic uplift of tribals, the fishing community and the urban poor, a senior official said.
