Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who stayed away from the partys national executive meeting in September last year, may skip the national executive meeting, scheduled to be held in Mumbai on May 24-25.
The BJP is set to discuss the election of the party president, and the amendment of its constitution to allow current president Nitin Gadkari to serve for the second consecutive term.
Highly placed sources said Narendra Modi is not happy with the RSS and the party’s decision to give a second term to Gadkari with whom he does not have good terms.
According to these sources, the RSS was expected to endorse Modi’s candidature as party president after Gadkari in December 2012 and as the party’s prime ministerial candidate in the 2014 general elections.
Saying that the situation has changed now,the sources said Gadkari is expected to get a second term and the party is in no mood to announce anyone as its prime ministerial candidate. Hence,to express his displeasure,Modi may stay away from the executive meeting. However,he has not informed any party leader yet.
Sources also said Modi is unhappy with former chief minister Keshubhai Patel’s open criticism, and the support of some national leaders for Patel.
When contacted, state BJP president and Modi’s close aide R C Faldu said: It is not necessary for CMs to go for these meetings if they have other engagements.
He added that he and Purushottam Rupala, who is the national vice-president,would be attending the meeting.
