Modi takes a swipe at Rahul for Anna barb

In a veiled attack on Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi,Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said criticising a leader like Anna Hazare is improper and an insult to him.

Modi,without naming Rahul,said working for peoples right is our duty and Hazare is not trying to become a hero by launching such a campaign.

In a letter to Justice Krishna Iyer,Rahul had said,I am trying to end corruption but I have no interest in becoming a hero.

The Gandhian had gone on a hunger strike to press for a stronger anti-corruption bill and forced the government to form a joint committee to formulate a legislation.

After laying the foundation stone of a branch canal of Sardar Sarovar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited (SSNNL) at Morbi,Modi said Anna Hazare has been fighting for peoples rights and some people are targeting him for praising Gujarat over development.

Accusing the Centre of putting spanner in development works being carried out by his government,Modi said,the state government is committed to completing various projects despite non-cooperation from the Union government.

Gujarat does not receive any benefits like other states and the Union government is creating hurdles in completion of numerous projects, he said.

Accusing the Centre of obduracy,Modi said that SSNL had sought permission from the PM for building gates at the Narmada dam but the PM did not grant it. He claimed Gujarat was the only state to have achieved 10 per cent growth rate in agriculture.
