MoEF team visits Posco site for green clearance

More than four months after the National Green Tribunal suspended the environmental clearance granted to Korean steelmaker Posco for its 12 million tonne per annum

More than four months after the National Green Tribunal suspended the environmental clearance granted to Korean steelmaker Posco for its 12 million tonne per annum integrated steel complex in Orissa’s Jagatsinghpur district,an expert team appointed by the environment ministry today visited the proposed site for a fresh review of the project.

A four-member committee led by its chairman K Roy Paul,a former secretary in the ministry visited Noliasahi,Polang,Gobindpur and Nuagaon villages to study the impact of forest diversion in the region. Paradip additional district magistrate Surjit Das said the team examined the steps to be taken on measures to protect the areas from natural calamities. The team will hold meetings with the state’s officials on Wednesday.
