Dressed casually in the team jersey of the Pune Warriors India (PWI) and shorts, PWI player Mohnish Mishra is elated after the team began their IPL on a winning note.
While Mishra has not had a great season last year, he is hopeful of a turnaround this time around. Having played in three seasons of the IPL, he feels that under the Pune Warriors he will have a better chance of showing his skills on the pitch. Prior to the Warriors, he was with the Deccan Chargers for the third edition of IPL in 2010.
"The match against Mumbai was different because the mood in the dressing room was upbeat. Despite having scored a paltry 129, the team was sure of their strengths. Also Ganguly's dedication is huge. He is always there speaking to players working hard at the practice sessions and involved in the game. In fact we won the game in the opening two overs when Mumbai lost two quick wickets," he said.
Mishra was not included in the opening game against the Mumbai Indians, but that has no dampened his spirits. Currently, leading the MP side in one-dayers and T20 games, the lad from Bhopal says the winning combination for the squad is important. "There are 30 players and 16 games. Everyone will get a chance to showcase their mettle, but what is important is the combination. Even for the match against Mumbai, the team had a combination that won. Facing Kings XI Punjab they would restrict the changes to the playing 11, which is important if the team has to make it to the finals," he said.
Commenting on the shift in leadership, he says both Ganguly and Yuvraj are good in their own ways.
"While Yuvraj's aggressive nature gets the job done, Sourav is very calculating and his aggression is more controlled. All said and done, the team does miss Yuvraj. We do hope his rehabilitation gets over, so that he can join the national squad and his Pune teammates soon," he adds.
