Rukhsana Kausar should be congratulated for her courage. It should send a strong message to militant groups operating in Kashmir and elsewhere. Militancy has no place in Islam and those working as mujahideen should be resisted and discouraged. Rukhsana and her family have given militants what they deserve. She has shown the path others need to follow. India needs more Rukhsanas. The young woman deserves a reward.

Work to do
This refers to the editorial ‘Just shut it’. The recent strike by Air India’s pilots caused enormous financial loss — Rs 12 crore per day — to the national carrier, which is already reeling under financial pressure due to its huge successive losses. This strike by over-paid pilots has nullified the AI management’s attempts to take the airline out of the red and raised many questions about its justification. India’s labour laws must be amended to exclude such handsomely paid pilots from their purview; they should not be allowed to take the entire nation for a ride.
The government must come out with a white paper on the whole episode and let the public know the reasons for the pilots going on strike as well as why it has now decided to withhold proposed cuts in their productivity-linked-incentives. It’s time to address this issue seriously for the benefit of customers and for salvaging the reputation of the national carrier.
