Citing instance of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda, who is facing allegations of corruption, and claiming that moneyed politicians tried to unsettle a democratically elected state government in Karnataka, JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav said on Tuesday politics seemed to have become a business proposition.

"Corruption is at an all time high. After seeing what all has happened in the Madhu Koda case and the way in which money power held the political system of Karnataka to ransom, it seems as if politics has become a business proposition. I call upon all parties to counter the threat of money power and corruption which are threatening to ruin the political system," Yadav told reporters in New Delhi.

Attacking power brokers, the JD(U) chief claimed that even in Andhra Pradesh, money power tried to install a novice as Chief Minister, referring to Jagan Mohan Reddy's efforts to claim the top seat after the sudden death of his father Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.

He added that Naxalism was on the rise in the country as tribals inhabiting the jungles had not been given their due over a period of time.

"This is the root cause of the Naxal problem. But the government under pressure of big money has launched an operation to liberate the tribal lands from Naxals without paying heed to people living there. I call on the Centre to revise its strategy of combating the Naxals. Naxalism is a socio-economic problem and it should be fought politically," Yadav said.
