“IMD’s long-range forecast for seasonal rainfall in the country and in different homogeneous regions, except northwest India, has been accurate. However, seasonal rainfall over northwest India and rainfall during July could not be predicted,” he said.
Tyagi also said there has been a delay in the start of withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from extreme west Rajasthan. The southwest monsoon withdrew this year on September 29 from Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, west Rajasthan, most parts of Uttarakhand, west Uttar Pradesh, east Rajasthan, some parts of north Gujarat and north Arabian Sea.
