A Pakistani soldier is believed to have died in heavy exchange of fire on the LoC, in the same area near Poonch which saw the brutal killing of two Indian Army jawans on Tuesday by troops of the Pakistan army.

Sources said India launched a "major response" after a ceasefire violation by Pakistan in the Mendhar area.

Islamabad said it had lost a soldier and blamed India for breaching the ceasefire. Indian Army officers said the firing took place after provocation from the other side. The firing, which affected the Battal area on the Pakistani side, started at 4.30 pm and lasted until 6.10 pm.

"A Pakistan army soldier, Havildar Mohyuddin, embraced shahadat due to unprovoked firing by Indian troops at Hotspring sector at 1440 hours," Pakistan's Inter Service Public Relations said. The soldier is believed to be from the 29 Baloch regiment.

Sources said besides small arms, heavy fire including mortars were employed in Thursday's incident. The Indian unit that responded was the 13 Raj Rif, the same battalion that saw the brutal killing of two of its jawans.

No rethink on visa pact, says shinde

UNION Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde ruled out putting the new India-Pakistan relaxed visa regime on hold. "There is no rethinking on visa agreement," he said.

HE said Lashkar-e-Toiba founder Hafiz Saeed had visited the PoK border areas a few days before the killing of two Indian soldiers.
