  • Lieutenant-Governor Tejendra Khanna on Thursday expressed “deep shock and regret” on the attack on Mayor Kanwar Sain and the ransacking of his office on Wednesday. Sacked temporary employees of the Hardayal Municipal Library had attacked the Town Hall in Chandni Chowk, the headquarters of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, on Wednesday afternoon. “All unauthorised encroachments around the Town Hall should be removed immediately. A Personal Security Officer (PSO) would be provided on a regular basis to the Mayor,” Khanna said. The Lt. Governor asked the Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal to initiate action against the police officers whose negligence led to such an “avoidable situation”. Mayor Kanwar Sain too called for police assistance and cooperation in successfully demolishing unauthorised construction. “The police do not follow-up and watch MCD’s demolition of encroached property, and this allows reoccupation of land by encroachers,” he said at the meeting with the L-G at Raj Niwas.
